Mammogram

Procedure Description

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast.

What To Expect

Your mammogram will be performed by a registered Radiology Technologist. The X-ray takes about 10 minutes and consists of 2 views total of each breast. During the x-ray, the breast is compressed between two smooth plastic surfaces and lasts about 5 seconds. The compression is mildly uncomfortable but ensures an excellent quality radiograph with minimal radiation. The compression is not harmful to the breast. Expect mild discomfort during compression and a slight reddening of the skin above the breasts.

Preprocedure

Try to schedule the mammogram at a time in your cycle when your breasts are less sensative. Do not use deoderant, powder or lotion on your breasts or in the arm-pit area. You can take Tylenol, if necessary, before the exam. Schedule you exam at our Mt Carmel Mall, Taylor Station Road, Mill Run or Grove City office to coincide with your annual exam.

Postprocedure

Tylenol if necessary for any discomfort.
